Reed Brothers complies with or exceeds the high standards of the Florida Department of Citrus, Division of Plant Industry, Mandatory Citrus Budwood Registration Program. All citrus seeds are extracted from trees that are registered by the Division of Plant Industries, Florida Department of Agriculture, and are the highest quality available. After the extraction process, the seeds are hot water treated to reduce the risk of Phytophthora spp.. The seeds are then treated with a 75% solution of Thiram, a fungicide. This fungicide helps to improve the shelf life of the seeds and reduce mold.Planting InstructionsSince citrus seeds are highly perishable, Reed Brothers recommends that the seeds be planted upon receiving them. The seeds should only be stored if they cannot be immediately planted. If it is necessary to store the seeds, it is recommended that they be placed in clear poly bags and stored at 35o to 45o Fahrenheit (3o to 7o Celsius). Care should be taken to avoid temperature extremes, since this will damage the viability of the citrus seeds. Do not expose the seeds to freezing or high temperatures. Exposure to direct sunlight should be avoided.Reed Brothers recommends a well drained, sterile potting medium be utilized to germinate citrus seeds. After wetting the medium, the seeds should be planted no deeper than one inch. Cover the seed with either the sterile potting medium used to plant the seeds in, or a covering of fine vermiculite. After seeding, the potting medium must be maintained moist and not allowed to dry out. Keeping the potting medium too moist is not recommended. Recommended temperature for optimum germination is from 85o to 90o F in a seed bed that is protected from the direct sun. Utilizing a shade cloth material with a 30% to 50% rating is recommended. Please contact us with any of your citrus seed needs.
